PK PD Summit 2010, Frankfurt, Germany, December 7-9
Presentation and workshop held by Michael Block
During the PK PD summit taking place December 7-9 in Frankfurt, Germany, Michael Block will give a presentation entitled Integrating systems biology with PK PD thinking. The talk will detail the development of a consistent multiscale tumor progression model including chemotherapeutic treatment. The model covers different scales from cellular to whole body level and makes use of pre-clinical in vivo data to answer questions relevant for the clinical development, such as the influence of genotypes on the therapeutic outcome. By example of PBPK PD modelling for cancer we show the potential of integrated systems biology approaches. The presentation will address the following topics:
• PBPK modelling in the context of drug development
• Modelling of cell population development in cancerous tissue
• Signal transduction modelling on the cellular level
• Developing systems biology disease models and access to disease progression
Michael will also hold a pre-meeting workshop on December 7th focussing on how systems biology is ideally integrated into drug development processes. This workshop will detail advances in systems biology research and explore how mechanistic PBPK and PD modelling can enhance your knowledge in the pre-clinical and clinical development of a drug. Starting with an introduction to the fundamentals of physiologically-based pharmacokinetic modelling, Michael will show examples for classical applications in pharmaceutical R&D.
During the workshop Michael will also focus on the analysis of complex pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics under simultaneous consideration of whole-body physiology by usage of available in-vitro and pre-clinical in vivo data.
